A Day in the life of an Election Day Worker- Part 1

(Ok this is not really just an account of the day but an account of all the preparation that led up to the day and the day itself follow the headings and see.)

The Dream

Well the Jamaican elections 2K7 was the first election in which i was eligible to vote. Yes! Finally i had come of age and was able to participate in the penultimate decision making process of my country. I was so excited and wanted to do even more than vote, so when the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) appealed for 300 more election day workers i answered the call. I was ready to serve my country in the places many would not want to serve and thus i signed up as a specialist officer. Being a specialist officer meant that you would not be able to chose the community you worked in and the EOJ could send you to any constituency they needed individuals ie. garrisons and or volatile communities. Such is my devotion to see free an fair elections in Jamaica Land WE Love. Well that was part of it but also, I wasn't really interested in working in my own community or any where nearby, i wanted a new and unforgettable experience! i wanted to be in the thick of things, the bad and ugly! Sadly i was not going to be disappointed...
